Tending the Fire Within: Therapy Groups for Men
On-going Groups in San Francisco on Monday or Tuesday Evenings.
Call to inquire or set up an initial consultation.
Group Times
Monday: 5:10 - 6:40 or 7:15 - 8:45.
Tuesday: 5 - 6:30.
In these groups we embrace and explore issues that men often find themselves struggling with. The style of the work is depth-oriented and relational, and typical group issues focus on relational intimacy, dealing with conflict and anger, loneliness, personal empowerment, grief, and creating and embodying a healthy sense of masculine identity. As the group matures, some of the work may involve ritual, issues of patriarchy and larger social dynamics that men face. By supporting each others experiences, we dive more deeply into our own unique expressions of masculinity and learn how we can feel more alive by holding our issues with compassion and heart.
"It is terribly important for a man to have some way to continue throughout his life working and playing with male companions who earnestly try to develop personal as well as collective soul. Without some sense of genuine group, too easily the individual man falls asleep or gives up. The history of men, of animals, and of learning has to do with groups, with common effort. A man can risk more exploration of his potentials and of his grandiosity--he can risk more encounters with grandeur--when connected to other men who can reduce him when necessary and encourage him when needed..."
